Ironman

We went to St. George a few weeks ago to watch Drew's cousin, Keb compete in the Ironman. It was a great experience, and very inspiring. Keb has the perfect excuse for not exercising, and yet he pushed himself to do the Ironman. There was a story written about him in the Daily Herald. Here's the link-

Eagle Mountian Man overcomes four-story fall to complete Ironman.

What Sadie thinks of me...

Sadie's preschool teacher wrote down some things that Sadie said about me:

I like to give my mom hugs and kisses.
It makes me happy when my mom plays princesses and ball with me.
My mom's a queen and I'm a princess.
My mom likes to play "blankies" (I have no idea what this means??)
My mom's favorite food is bananas. (I actually don't care that much for bananas but I'm always trying to get Sadie to eat them, so she must assume that I like them.)
And my very favorite: For work my mom talks to herself at the city offices.

New Dog

Here's the newest member of our family- Jessie. She's a Drahthaar German Hunting dog. She's just a puppy right now, but she'll get really big.

Sadie really likes Jessie.....
And this is one of those bad mother moments. I had to beg Sadie to hold the puppy so that I could get a cute picture, and Jessie, being a puppy, wanted to chew on Sadie's head! It's really not that bad- this picture makes it look worse that what it really was. Jessie only left a tiny scratch on Sadie's forehead.
Despite this, and the incident where Jessie peed on Sadie's princess sleeping bag, (another very dramatic event) Sadie really does love Jessie. She talks about her often and wants to play with her. Sadie also really enjoys shouting out commands such as "No", "Down," and "Sit".

Marriage....

This is a conversation I had with Sadie after driving past the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.

Me: There's where mommy and daddy got married.

Sadie: I want to be married there.

Me: Yes, that would be very nice.

Sadie: Who am I going to marry?

Me: I don't know. You get to pick someone when you're older.

Sadie: I want to marry daddy.

Me: Sorry, mommy is married to daddy. You'll have to pick someone else.

Sadie: Oh...Who?

Me: I don't know. You'll have to pick someone.

Sadie: You pick for me. (Yes! I'm writing this down, so I can hold her to it!)

Me: How about Bowen (6 year old neighbor boy). He's cute.

Sadie: Yeah. He is cute. I will marry Bowen....when he is bigger, cause right now he is little....but he will be bigger....not huge....just bigger.

Me: okay. good idea....wait until he's bigger.

Preschool and Waking Up "Early"

Sadie started preschool yesterday. She's going to Learning Dynamics in Saratoga Springs (my family is an investor, so we pay next to nothing for tuition...which is good, because it's a little pricey for a preschool). Sadie's teacher is awesome, cute, fun, and sweet. My hat's off to her, because she has to have an extra high level of energy to keep preschoolers attention and make learning fun! (something that I defiantly lack). And thanks to my wonderful mom, who is helping me out by taking Sadie to and from preschool.

Now I have to actually get Sadie ready on Tues./Thurs mornings. Before Sadie started preschool, I just dropped her off at daycare and they got her dressed and did her hair- which happened after all the older kids had left for school, (and still happens on Mon/Wed) but now that Sadie's part of that group that goes to school, I have to have her ready for the day before dropping her off at 6:55 a.m. Which means I have to get up at 5:50 a.m. on Tu/Thur. (as apposed to my usual 6 a.m.) Yikes...I know it's only 10 min. right? but there's something about waking up before 6 a.m. that just makes me grouchy. I am not a morning person. Never have been, never will be. (Note: not only is waking up early hard for me, but staying awake and focused for 10 hours straight behind a desk can be very difficult when I'm lacking sleep, especially when I'm trying to type meeting minutes.) I was so spoiled over the Holidays when I took time off work. We would put Sadie to bed at night really late and then she would sleep in until 9 a.m.....which means we slept in till 9 a.m.!!! I will admit I felt a little guilty for doing that....but it was the holidays, so I'll just chalk it up to one of the many guilty pleasures I indulged in during the Christmas Break!

Jumping back to dropping off Sadie at 6:55 a.m.......sometimes I feel like I'm the only Mormon FULL-TIME working mom in the world with a "little one", but it's not true (obviously)....there are others out there. I know this because there are actually other small kids at daycare when I drop Sadie off at 6:55, which means there are other moms that have more then one "little one" and have to be to work before I do!! See, I knew I really didn't have it that bad. :)

I guess what made me think of all this was that I overheard a conversation between 2 other preschool moms that were saying it was so difficult to have their child to preschool so early (early being 9 a.m.). and then I started feeling sorry for myself because I wish I could say that 9 a.m. was early for me! Oh how quick I am to feel sorry for myself, when really I need to do a better job of counting my blessings- because there are many, many blessings in my life.....a wonderful hard working husband, good jobs, financial stability, good health, a beautiful and smart daughter, knowledge of the restored gospel, and helpful family close by! Just to name a few :)
